Samandi Mahfuz and brother-in-law Akhter Bepari have been accused of breaking the teeth of their sister-in-law Atab Ali Sarkar (60) for not paying tribute in the char areas of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila. There were also allegations of vandalism and looting of houses. Sister Hasina Begum, niece Saiful Sarkar (30) and Habib Sarkar (24) were injured in the incident.
The incident took place at noon on Wednesday (August 25) in Sholarchar village of Adhara union in the char area of Sadar upazila. The injured have been admitted to Munshiganj General Hospital. Additional police have been deployed at the spot.
Injured Atab Ali said, "Samandi Mahfuz Bepari, brother-in-law Akhter Bepari, their niece Ramzan Bepari and their associates Dalim Bepari, Sagar Bepari, Kalam Bhuiyan, Hasan Dewan and others are providing weapons and cocktail making equipment for the upcoming UP elections." Gangra demanded 10 lakh rupees from me. When I refused to pay the demanded amount, they attacked my house last Monday, beat us up, vandalized our furniture and looted 9 lakh rupees in cash, 16 ounces of gold, a laptop and two mobile phones.
When he lodged a complaint with the Sadar Police Station seeking justice for the incident, he was beaten on Wednesday (August 25) at noon, threatening to withdraw the complaint. At that time the terrorists broke my 3 teeth. He later killed my wife and two children and left them with bloody wounds. Currently, my family and I are in a state of panic.
They could not be reached for comment.
Investigating officer SI Sukant said a written complaint had been lodged in the incident. The matter is being investigated. At the end of the investigation, legal action will be taken against those involved.
